Why shouldn’t you poison them?
It is important to know what the consequences are to poisoning a Hollywood opossum.
• The poison will not kill the animal immediately. This means that the animal will suffer immensely while the poison takes its effect. Most poisons, like rat poison, will cause internal hemorrhaging. This means that they will bleed to death.
• Other animals could eat the poison. It is impossible to know which Florida animals will be able to get to the poison. If other animals can gain access to your yard, they might eat the poison. Your children and pets will not be immune to the poison either.
• They Hollywood opossum will not die immediately. This means that it will wander off and die elsewhere. The body can then be eaten by other scavengers, this will kill them too. This will cause a chain of events that you are unable to control.
• It is illegal. In most cities, it is illegal to kill any wild Florida animals. If you are caught you will be liable to pay a massive fine.
• You will need a large amount of poison. Opossums are immune to most types of snake venom. This means that you will need to submit them to large quantities of poison in order to kill them.

Alternatives
There are alternatives to killing a Hollywood opossum. The best way to get rid of them is to ensure that they are not able to gain entry to your property. You can do this by closing up all available openings.
