Skunks are found in North and South America. Due to humans encroaching on their natural habitat, they have become scavengers. Their diet varies depending on the season. They are often found scratching through garbage cans or trying to pilfer pet food.



What are Hollywood skunks?
Skunks are mammals that may vary in color. The most common being black, with a white stripe down their back and tail. They are well known for spraying a noxious fluid from their anal glands when threatened. They are also a common carrier of rabies. If you do find a skunk on your property, it is a good idea to try and get rid of them.

Where are they found?
The best-known Florida skunk, the striped skunk, is native to North America. They can be found throughout North America but are also found in Mexico and parts of Canada. Other species of skunk are found in Canada and South America.

Should I trap them?
When trying to get rid of wild Hollywood animals on your property many people choose to trap them. This is a humane way of relocating them without them getting injured. This is less easy with the skunk, as they will spray you if they are scared. They can be beneficial to have around as they will eat harmful pests in your garden. This is often outweighed by the fact that they can dig beneath the foundation of your home.

Humane ways to kill them
Once you have trapped the Florida skunk it is not as easy to relocate as other pests. Relocating wild animals may also be detrimental to the wildlife in the area where you release them. Therefore, many people choose to kill them instead. There are a variety of ways to kill skunks but only a few humane ways.
1. Shoot the skunk. This is only suited to people who know what they are doing. If you do not kill it outright, the animal may suffer. Make sure that you have a permit to kill wild animals.
2. Euthanasia. You can take the Hollywood skunk to a vet or wildlife expert who will inject it with a lethal chemical. Do not try and do this yourself.
3. Carbon monoxide. Cover the cage in a bag and attach it to the tailpipe of your car. The carbon monoxide will kill the skunk without it suffering.
